Tuesday Links: Agile Methods, ODF, Thin Clients, and More
November 15, 2005 |
- Martin Fowler has a lengthy (but very good) discussion of agile methods.
- Industry organizations for Business Process Management and Workflow: WARIA, BPMI (now part of OMG), and the Workflow Management Coalition. There’s also the AIIM, which focuses on document and records management.
- eWeek talks about Microsoft’s growing acceptance of Agile methods (while you’re at it, take a look at MSF for Agile Development and MSF for CMM Improvement–interestingly, Microsoft is trying to develop MSF into a framework that can apply to projects at different ceremony levels. I think Alistair Cockburn was the first person to suggest this idea.
- 9 till 2 has a long article about models that I haven’t managed to read yet… (via EDS’ Next Big Thing).
- Nicholas Carr thinks that AJAX will bring back thin client hardware. With hardware costs being what they are, this still sounds like a solution in search of a problem.
- A Moment Of Clarity reminds BAs to think about where information will come from before assuming that the system will be able to provide it. I’m always amazed how often people overlook this.
- Stephen Walli predicts that Microsoft will be out of business in a decade (and adds more here). While I disagree, I think there’s a real possibility that their traditional market will undergo significant disruption.
- Stephen O’Grady thinks the OpenDocument summit went well. One way or another, I think Microsoft will be forced into having a fully documented and effectively open XML-based format for office applications. It’s just too useful a feature for corporate customers.
