Webcast: Turbo-Charge SharePoint / FAST Search with Longitude V4.1
I conducted a webcast yesterday that was well attended. Thanks to all attendees that asked great questions and kept it interactive.
Please find below the Q and A portion of the webcast:
Q: Does it search within a zipped collection? A: Yes. Longitude will present each file in the zip in order of decreasing relevance. Clicking any file presents the most relevant page in the document and the user can move through the entire document if desired.
Q: What´s the benefit of using your metadata enhancement compared to the FS4SP extensibility pipeline (in a FS4SP scenario)? A: Typical build versus buy….Longitude provides a graphic user interface. The user can configure the index pipeline rather than have to code the enhancements.
Q: Does this work for any document format? A: Longitude currently provides previews for the most common document types, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Tiff, Text, Email, HTML, Gif, JPEG, and Zip. File types that are not enhanced are still fully searchable.
Q: can you perform a boolean search using "and" "not" "near"? A: Yes. Both SharePoint 2010 and FAST for SharePoint provide this out of the box. Longitude extends this to searching inside documents.
Q: will the ability to copy a "snippet" be on your roadmap? A: It is on the roadmap however it is not considered a high priority relative to other requested features. Priorities are largely set based level of interest.
Q: with the connectors...you state "more" - are there plans to integrate with IronMountain (Mimosa) Nearpoint? A: We do, but it is currently not a high priority. If your organization where to pay a nominal fee upfront for development, we would create the connector and credit your downpayment to the purchase cost. Connectors can be developed very quickly.
Q: In the case of crawling web pages (internet sites). Do you provide a way to index complex URLs and map the to metadata or something similar? A: yes, with Longitude connectors, we can index both the metadata stored in a database (for example) and link it with the HTML page as a single indexed record. We can also optionally map any user and group security information stored in a database and map it to Active Directory so that security trimming is enabled.
Q: Is there a session or webinar scheduled on FAST BCS in the near future by BA Insight? A: This is a great idea. We'll see if we can make this the topic of our next monthly webcast.
Q: how do you search doc sets A: Document sets are fully supported. However, please keep in mind that the search engine treats all documents in a document set individually in the search result. Longitude will present a preview of each of these.
Q: can you search exchange public folders A: This is out of the box functionality provided by FAST or SharePoint. Longitude provides the ability to search Private Mailboxes via our Exchange Connector.
Q: do you have Deltek Costpoint and Costpoint CRM connectors? A: We do, but it is currently not a high priority. If your organization where to pay a nominal fee upfront for development, we would create the connector and credit your downpayment to the purchase cost. Connectors can be developed very quickly.
Q: What is integration strategy with MS Windows 7 Desktop Search, libraries, etc.? A: The integration is out of the box with FAST and SharePoint. Longitude leverages that integration.
Q: Is FAST working with SCSM Service Desk? A: Yes. FAST is fully integrated.
