The Joy of Spam
June 2, 2006 |
I discovered a UI bug today in GMail’s spam reporting capability.
The problem occurs when a spam email has the same subject as an ongoing conversation. GMail then attaches it to that conversation. Normally, to report a spam email that slips past the GMail filter, I go into my Deleted Items, check the message, and select “Report as Spam” from the dropdown.
However, once the spam email inserts itself into a conversation, the normal tools will end up reporting the entire conversation, not just a single email.
Fortunately, there is a workaround. You have to open the conversation and click on Recover From Wastebasket at the bottom of the spam. That will move it and it alone into your Inbox, from where it can be reported.
