April Update
April 29, 2007 |
I won’t bother offering the usual excuses for the quiet. It will probably like this until BABOK 2.0 is out, unfortunately.
The State of 2.0
Most chapters have complete drafts done. Chapter 5 is still in revision and the first draft of the Fundamentals should be complete this week. We will be integrating the chapters for the next month or so to fill gaps and eliminate overlaps and that’s all that remains to be done before the next release. There’s a lot of work still required to get to 3.0 but that’s another matter.
If you have a large sum of money you’d like to donate so that I could work on this full time, that would be a BIG help. And I’d like a pony, too, while I’m at it.
Volunteering
Right now there aren’t any openings; all our efforts are focused on polishing the existing draft and completing remaining text. In principle I’d love to have assistance but in practice it will take longer to get new people up to speed than it will for existing core team members to do the work. After 2.0 we’ll start looking for people to help us out.
We really appreciate the enthusiasm and interest the BA community has in the work we’re doing. It does a lot to keep us motivated, and we appreciate your support.
What’s Next?
As soon as we have finalized the outline of 2.0, we’ll release that so that people better understand where things are going–look for that in the next few weeks. Post-2.0 the evolution of the BABOK will be conducted in as open and public a fashion as we can manage, so the changes that will come through version 3 will not come as a surprise. We’re going to be relying much more on feedback from the community in the future than we have in the past to ensure we strike the right balance.
See you next month.
