Links for September 9
September 9, 2006 |
I used to do this stuff on a “Sideblog” but never got it to work quite how I wanted. So:
- Chris Matts (a member of the BA Fundamentals team) speaks in a podcast on Real Options and agile development.
- Karl Wiegers on writing requirements for enhancements to existing systems. It’s amazing how little attention this gets considering that it makes up the vast majority of requirements work.
- Robert Glass questions whether there really is a “software crisis” and whether projects fail as much as the Standish Report claims. Based on the article I think he’s got a point.
- That link comes via Mike Kelly’s blog. Mike is the President of the Association for Software Testing and is trying to develop an Open Testing Certification–an interesting idea if one I’m not sure can be made to work.
- Bruce Silver talks about the importance of exception handling in process flows.
- Eileen Strider suggests launching projects with a Hudson’s Bay Start–an absolutely minimal iteration, designed to take no more than a couple of days, to get the project team used to working together and running through the development process.
- I’ve moved to Firefox 2.0 Beta 2. So far, so good, especially with the GrApple theme to make it feel Mac-like.
- I’ve also been trying out Mac project management software. I found that the two choices which seem to be best are Merlin and OmniPlan (both in beta). Merlin is more powerful, but OmniPlan seems to be more in tune with what I want. Either is a good choice, though. I may do a full review later.
